Tim Sweeney

  • I’ve been passionate about supporting people’s mental health since qualifying in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) from the University of Oxford in 2005. Since then I have been employed at Nottingham Psychotherapy unit offering CBT to people with depression and anxiety. I currently lead the Mindfulness-CBT programme at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, where I help shape how mindfulness and evidence-based therapy can support recovery and resilience.

  • Whether in clinical, academic, or coaching settings, I’m driven by a deep belief in the power of CBT, mindfulness, and evidence-based care to help people live fuller, healthier lives.

  • Alongside my NHS role, I’m proud to work as a senior trainer with the University of Oxford’s Mindfulness Centre, where I also teach on the Master’s programme. This work has taken me around the world, training clinicians and professionals from diverse backgrounds.

My academic journey led me to complete a PhD at the University of Nottingham in 2016, exploring how we can better understand and treat depression. Research continues to be a vital part of my work—I’m currently involved in several national studies focused on mental health interventions.

Since 2008, I’ve also been working in private practice, where I offer tailored CBT coaching to individuals facing a variety of challenges, both personal and professional. My work in this area spans a broad spectrum—from supporting people dealing with mental health difficulties such as anxiety, stress, and burnout, to coaching senior leaders and executives who are navigating high-pressure environments.

  • My approach is warm, collaborative, and focused on empowering you with practical tools that support meaningful change. I offer both in-person and online sessions.
